Community Connection for Supervisors, Managers, and Executive Leaders
Community Connection for Supervisors, Managers, and Executive Leaders
The MSU University Health and Wellbeing Spartan Resilience Education Program invites all supervisors, managers, and executive leaders to join our
Community Connection
Session for Leaders. This program acknowledges the one-year mark of the violence the MSU Community experienced on February 13, 2023. While there is a wide range of responses to both the event and the anniversary it is important to acknowledge this solemn occasion in trauma informed ways. All supervisors, managers, and executive leaders are encouraged to join this session to best prepare for this upcoming anniversary, and to explore
how to navigate trauma reminders and reactions, both yours and others, as they arise in the workplace.
This session will include a few moments of remembrance, followed by the opportunity for skill building to increase capacity to navigate trauma reminders and reactions.
Navigating Trauma Reminders and Reactions
When we have lived through a trauma or traumatic grief event it is natural to have moments when something in our current experience reminds us of our past trauma. In these moments of remembering we may powerfully re-experience the trauma in our physical bodies, emotions, thoughts, and reactions. Understanding what is happening to you and having skills to help yourself move through these difficult moments, can help you regain your sense of balance and perspective.
While trauma reminders may continue to happen over time, we can build capacity to reduce the impact of these challenging moments when they occur. We can also learn how to actively support others when they have a trauma reminder or are experiencing a trauma response.
- Learn about basic trauma responses.
- Understand the psychological process behind trauma reminders.
- Notice stress response activation and have a plan to help yourself through moments of trauma.
- Incorporate the Spartan Resilience 6-word framework for Resilience to provide you with scaffolding to move through tough moments.
- Increase capacity to name and process difficult emotions to allow yourself to heal and grow.
